Hi guys, I am about to do some reconfiguring of my SL 6.1 box. With the new support in place in 6.1 "official" -- I'm going to upgrade some of my external harddrives from USB 2.0 to 3.0 What I would like to do is test the current performance first, though, then run the same tool again after upgrading. I want to see any improvements, and I also want to make sure that something is not just completely configured wrong and I get worse performance. Here's my problem: Too much info! I do a google search for linux benchmarking, and I find a million things. I just want something simple and straightforward that gives me a few scores, so I can make sure I'm not going backwards. There are some hits when I search yum for "benchmark" --- but again, to many to try out each and every one. What would you use? I have rpmforge and epel both in my repo list, if there's something in there that would be on your "must use" list. Thanks, Greg |

On FreeBSD people use bonnie and bonnie++. I am not sure if they are in SL repos though.

The easiest is:
hdparm should be installled by default -------------------- My personal SL6 repository, specialized in audio/video software: http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/
(can be used together with EPEL and ELRepo repositories) |
