Hi,
I'm planning on switching to SL6. Can someone suggest me if Texmaker or Kile is available for Sl 6? I googled for the info but couldn't find any. Thank you, emorkay |

Hi emorkay,
Unfortunately I can't find Kile or TeXmaker for el6. The closest I've found is LyX from Epel. |

Yeah...I could find Kile or Texmaker for EL 5 but not for EL 6. I'm quite used to Texmaker and can work with Kile too. But I'm very uncomfortable with Lyx. This is one thing that's stopping me from switching to SL 6. Anyway, thank you for your response. |

Hi emorkay,
If you have an EL/SL6x computer running you could try compiling src.rpms maybe from Fedora? I'm guessing Fedora 13 or newer will have the greatest chance of success. I'm still running 5x so I can't comment on whether it will work or not. |

Hi emorkay, Here are a few: Kile Fedora 10 Kile Fedora 11 Kile Fedora 12 Kile Fedora 13 Kile Fedora 14 EDIT: Kile Fedora 15 TeXmaker Fedora 10 TeXmaker Fedora 11 TeXmaker Fedora 12 TeXmaker Fedora 13 TeXmaker Fedora 14 TeXmaker Fedora 15 Some good tips on building src rpms *not* as root can be found Here followed by here (although these are for 5x, but I suspect it is similar for 6x(?)) Let me know how it goes. I really like Kile (TeXmaker too) and am curious if they build on 6x. Good luck. EDIT: There's a nice thread on these boards about building src.rpms here. |

Thank you very much! But I'm looking for 64-bit rpms. I would be grateful if you can tell me where I can find them. And also, I'm looking for texmaker not texmakerx. Anyway, thank you for your response! Regards, emorkay |

Hi,
I tried and built the rpms from the source rpms provided by adebened and w3bservice. Kile is more or less working fine but texmaker is giving some dependency problems. Anyways, thanks for the help guys! Regards, emorkay |

Hi emorkay,
What dependencies are causing trouble? Maybe someone can steer you to where you can get the right packages to meet those dependencies. Do the dependency errors occur during build or during install? |

I would like to mention an alternative app which can be used as a LaTeX editor: Geany. I have ver. 0.20 installed on my system, and it has been working well for me (even though it lacks some of the bells and whistles of Texmaker and Kile). Thanks to a few configuration tips I found online, Geany's Build commands can be specifically tailored to LaTeX. I will list them here, with the hope that it will save someone's time. Under Build > Set Build Commands: LaTeX source file Commands: Latex > DVI:
Latex > PDF:
Clean:
Independent Commands: Make Make Custom Target Make Object XeLaTeX:
Execute Commands: View PDF File:
View DVI File:
I uploaded a screenshot of these settings here: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/88/geanylatexbuildcommands.png/ IIRC, I had to build xdvik from source because I couldn't find it in any of the repositories. I lost the notes I took when I did this, unfortunately. But I believe I got the source .rpm from http://tinyurl.com/3u78hke and followed the general guidelines from here: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/SetupRpmBuildEnvironment -------------------- Registered Linux User # 442201
