Being a "use what works" guy, I always like to use Verdana as my gnome or kde desktop font. With SL, you need to search around a bit. I've built the msttcorefonts rpm (linked) from an RPM source package for your convenience.
1. Download and install first libmspack-0.2-0.1.20100723alpha.puias6.x86_64.rpm, and then Cabextract for el6 (they can be found on the Princeton (RHEL6) Site: ![]() 2. Enable the ATrpm repos then, as root, do the following:
3. Download and Install the msttcorefonts .rpm I've built here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2835777/msttcorefo....0-1.noarch.rpm Enjoy the high quality fonts! Let me know if you run into problems. Or, create a .fonts directory in your /home/ directory and put all .ttf fonts you want to use in it.

Now that you say it, yes I just did: http://elders.princeton.edu/data/puias/unsupported/5/SRPMS/msttcorefonts-2.0-1.src.rpm I originally thought you had made the src rpm yourself, that's why I asked you for it. -------------------- My personal SL6 repository, specialized in audio/video software: http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/

Hi guys,
How can I check that MS TrueType fonts are installed correctly? I tried all the advices above, but seems I don't have the fonts loaded. xlsfonts doesn't show MS fonts and some bold letters in Firefox 5 bleed colors. |

I think I just brought up a word processor and checked that they had been installed....your font cache should have been rebuilt. Have you rebooted? (don't think this is necessary though) -------------------- DΞLL Precision M6700: 17 inch NB//i7-quad w/USB 3.0, 16.0GB, Quadro K5000M 2.0GB DDR3, RGBLED //W8P64/Scientific Linux 6.4 x64

Yes, I rebooted a few times. First time after I installed the rpm. Then I ran this command:
# /sbin/service xfs reload and rebooted again. I also copied MS ttf fonts to ~/.fonts directory and rebooted. Nothing seems to help or maybe I am looking in wrong places. BTW I see color bleeding only in some bold text in Firefox 5. BTW what word processor do you recommend? I see OpenOffice in repositories - is it a good choice or LibreOffice is better? Thanks, Andrew |

you're forgetting to run mkfontdir && mkfontscale in the new font dir, and then running as root fc-cache --force

I resolved the issue by following this: http://www.kegel.com/linux/tt.html and then setting what font to use in Firefox and Thunderbird.
Thanks everybody for help, Andrew |

I tried following those steps as well and I got to the 3rd step when it failed. I got a lot of bad mirror messages and it kept timing out repeatedly on arial32.exe before giving up. Is there an easier way to install these? I went to the atrpms site, but I couldn't find a way to easily add them as a repository on my system. I found the chkfontpath package on their site and tried to install it, but it couldn't because it said my system was missing xfs, whatever that is. I didn't see that package on their site and doing a yum search for xfs only returned xfs utilities. |

Ok, I managed to get everything installed once I set up the ATrpms repo. My question now is, how do I utilize the new msttcorefonts, especially in Office applications under Wine?

I use Word and Excel under CXOffice....good question....I'm using them, but not on that computer now as it's 1805 miles away. I'll post back when it comes to me....something like copying the fonts over the wine C: drive or something....sorry for being so vague right now. -------------------- DΞLL Precision M6700: 17 inch NB//i7-quad w/USB 3.0, 16.0GB, Quadro K5000M 2.0GB DDR3, RGBLED //W8P64/Scientific Linux 6.4 x64
