This is what I have done, and it works....PUAIS has a fix for their RHEL spin that should translate to SL6: http://puias.math.ias.edu/wiki/64BitIssues At the bottom of the page. Also, see: http://allmybase.com/2009/08/04/skype-on-64-bit-fedora-11-linux/ for the cmd line syntax to install the wrapper, which is:
Remember to set the new skype launcher file as "executable". -------------------- DΞLL Precision M6700: 17 inch NB//i7-quad w/USB 3.0, 16.0GB, Quadro K5000M 2.0GB DDR3, RGBLED //W8P64/Scientific Linux 6.4 x64

I followed this:
http://rakitha.wordpress.com/2010/05/03/configuring-skype-in-red-hat-enterprise-linux-version-5-5/ except I used the latest version download from Skype. Then as su: yum install glibc.i686 and tried to run Skype from command line. Each lib that it said I was missing, I installed. After each was installed, ran beautifully. Since I use Skype for work, this was a major thing for me switching over from Fedora. Now I don't have to deal with Gnome 3. |

For anyone interested, the error I got before installing glibc.i686 was: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory |
