From the SL Mail List, Troy Dawson of FNAL (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory) requests users fill out a Survey. Linked below and copied from the Mail List:
This is your chance to voice your opinion of SL. Please do so, it can only help us (and them). Mod's edit: survey is closed -------------------- DΞLL Precision M6700: 17 inch NB//i7-quad w/USB 3.0, 16.0GB, Quadro K5000M 2.0GB DDR3, RGBLED //W8P64/Scientific Linux 6.4 x64

Ditto. I suggested that the non-DVD/CD methods of installation be improved (simplified) so DVD/CD burning could be avoided.

Fedora set up their own version of boot.kernel.org, maybe we could too? Would still require offering images (for those who can't do PXE natively) but still |

Geared to organisations. Being also new to SL plus only a simple home desktop user I gave it a miss.

At the risk of "stuffing the ballot box", I filled out the survey twice (and noted that in the comments): once for my employer's/organization's use, and once for my home use. Really, the two worlds are quite different, but I find it advantageous to use the same OS at home and at work. |

Although a new user of SL for personal desktop only, just filled in the survey.
My suggestion for improvement was to enable it to find wireless cards/USB wireless adapters; like most distributions, it falls down badly in this respect. My reasons for finding SL attractive were that it is Secure and Sturdy. I forgot to say that it's cute (visually appealing) too, sorry for that lapse, folks. Best wishes, all |

Hi,
Have completed the survey...My opinion is to make only minimal modifications to upstream vendor source code and not to add any further packages as is done by Centos....And continue with timely updates, where centos is currently lagging.... If theses suggestions are followed Scientific Linux will replace Centos in the server market in the near future.... The Golden Rule is: "Not to make any major changes to upstream vendor code...only changes to adhere to copyright regulations by removing trademark logos" etc..etc.... Best Wishes to Scientific Linux Team !!! Shelley |

I'm going to fill it out a bit later, for I do have something to say there. Leaving a reply just to get subscripted to this topic, i.e. not to forget it.

After talking to Pat Riehecky this survey has been closed.
The survey is almost a year old. He would see if there is some sort of outcome (figures) we can post here. -------------------- What is SL? - Forum Rules - Info on 3rd Party Repos - How to post images - How to post large text / config files
