Today, I burned a copy of SL 6.2 onto a DVD. I booted from the DVD and stared the install. After a long list of text, it came to "kernel panic- not syncing: fatal exception" and then stopped. It never gets passed this point. What is wrong?

Hard to tell, could be incompatible hardware, could be a hardware issue (defective motherboard / CPU / RAM /PSU ...), could be bad BIOS settings, could be ACPI issues.

Do other Linux distros install and work fine on the same PC?

The only time I've ever seen this was with hard drive failure issues, bad sectors, corrupted data, etc. Though from the description it could also be RAM problems.

Sorry I took so long on the respond, I've been busy. I don't know about other distros; this is the first one I've tried on this PC.
