Today, I burned a copy of SL 6.2 onto a DVD. I booted from the DVD and stared the install. After a long list of text, it came to "kernel panic- not syncing: fatal exception" and then stopped. It never gets passed this point. What is wrong?

Hard to tell, could be incompatible hardware, could be a hardware issue (defective motherboard / CPU / RAM /PSU ...), could be bad BIOS settings, could be ACPI issues. Do other Linux distros install and work fine on the same PC? -------------------- My personal SL6 repository, specialized in audio/video software: http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/

The only time I've ever seen this was with hard drive failure issues, bad sectors, corrupted data, etc. Though from the description it could also be RAM problems. |

Sorry I took so long on the respond, I've been busy. I don't know about other distros; this is the first one I've tried on this PC. |
