Hello All,

Just new to the forum. Congrats on the great job that all the nice folk here do helping new users.

I installed SLC6.3 in a virtual machine (Oracle VirtualBox 4.18 on WinXP SP3).
Per my own preference I switched from gnome to kde.

Following instructions from the forum I did:
yum groupinstall "KDE Software Development"
yum groupremove "GNOME Desktop Environment"
yum remove gdm
yum install kdm

Now working in kde is fine. There just one very minor issue.
The little splash screen when kde is launching is missing.
I.e. when it is showing the little window in the center showing how the individual components are initialized.
Instead I see the cern (picture) splash screen and just a small horizontal progress bar/line where the kde splash should be.

Any ideas how to fix that?

Cheers,
Gert

Off the top of my head I'd say you can customise that in the KDE settings menu (click on the crossed tools on the taskbar, bottom left).

Beware though the KDE4 version that's included with SL6/RHEL6 is rather old and is still one of the early KDE4 releases that weren't that stable. I tried using it for a while but found it too buggy for my taste.
