nvidia install help

i installed SL 6.2 4th time please help regarding nvidia

there is no xorg file from start


changes i made from above post

i set grub.conf

to

rdblacklist=nouveau nouveau.modeset=0

before that what i did was

edit grub to rdblacklist=nouveau

create the file "nvidia-installer-disable-nouveau.conf" in /etc/modprobe.d with these lines:


blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0


now i also removed nouveau driver

but why on every time i check getting same ?????

also like to add i didnt install nvidia drivers yet to avoide conflict like before

Uninstalling packages in not enough for the noueau, because nouveau module in in kernel package, not in x11-something. If you're really desperate you can move somewhere else those drivers, so they can't possibly be loaded. Check rpm -ql kernel | grep nouveau for details.

Also you don't have to make w new file in modprobe.d, editing standard blacklist file is enough. I also tried to change resolution for text console in grub.conf kernel parameter (vga=0x303). I guess high resolution is calling nouveau for help.

I clearly get rid of it, since I haven't any nouveau modules, Gnome desktop loads slower and generally I'm on plain vesa. Nvidia doesn't work either, but that another problem.

I know, that nouveau driver gets under my craw sometimes Did you follow the Nvidia install instructions on this forum using Kmod? Aqui?

I put together the instructions wayy back on the old forum, and Redman posted them here.

thanks seem and joutlan its works now i guess vga=0x303 trick worked i am able to install nvidia 295.20 driver from kmod nvidia

but new problem is that i have very old graphic card 8600GT new drivers are very slow and not good to eyes even hang little i have to wait 35-38 seconds for setting to take place

i try to stick with it little then learn how to compile 275.43 driver from source

275 are rocksoild here as they LTS drivers and before i am having one it work great without any problem

Glad it helped...I won't jerk around with anything except kmod....however, I have been known to build a latest nvidia driver sometimes....

ti tried to install from source as well it work easy and good pretty happy with 273.43 drivers

hope it help other as well if someone having same as my problem
