I was wondering what you all think about creating a new sub forum (maybe in the Technical section) dedicated to third party packages and repos compatible with SL.
I mean this sub forum could be used by third party packagers and users to start threads about any particular packages or software that have just been released or that they are interested in, to discuss their uses and usage and any issues with them. Personally I have sometimes thought to announce packages that I just made on this forums, as I thought they could be of interest to others (and have done so a few times), but I don't think any of the existing sub-forums is really appropriate. The whole "Support" section isn't really suitable as it appears to be targeted at user support with problems and issues, rather than presentations of new packages and their features. Basically currently most of the forum is geared towards troubleshooting and problem solving, which is certainly very important but I think this should be counterbalanced by a more positive/constructive section that would allow users to present to others SL related stuff they have done themselves or found in other repos or on the internet in general (not just packages even simple scripts or any other useful software), thereby possibly encouraging more users to become active. Currently the only such subforum is the "How-to's / manuals / instructional manuals" subforum, adding a new "Third Party Packages and Software" subforum would IMHO enhance this section. What do you think? -------------------- My personal SL6 repository, specialized in audio/video software: http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/

Yes, that's sort of similar, but instead of cramming loads of applications into one thread with overlapping discussion I'm suggesting to have a dedicated subforum which then will contain one dedicated thread for each application. -------------------- My personal SL6 repository, specialized in audio/video software: http://pkgrepo.linuxtech.net/el6/

Thanks! Can you or anyone else with the appropriate permissions move the Seamonkey thread to the new subforum too? I have done some cleaning up in the 3rd party repo subforum (moved general topics to the appropriate subforums) and posted a sticky note on what to post there.
