i want to create a firewall between My Dedicated PPPoe server and Local network . how can i configure my Linux box to do it.

your question is very general. You need to describe you networking environment in much bigger detail to get helped on this and also say if you're beginner etc etc .. + ask more particular questions. First of All thanx a lot for your response .
i want to set up firewall between my PPPOE server and 100 clients who connect to te PPPOE server(third party linux based Server ) for Internet surfing . i want to secure and wants to drop broadcasts , unwanted packets ,and viruses to stop eating Internet bandwidth . as the clients are outside and remote locations i wants to make a Vlan sort of thing ok that is i think secondry issue . So Primary concern is to have Firewall that can prevent unwanted ports to be blocked so that network bandwidth may free .frees bandwidth by droping malicious ,broadcast packets I 'm begineer in linux and using Centos for Implementaion of Iptables. i go thtough iptables tutorial but they use NATing which i don't want to use as my clients have to login on my PPPOE server to use internet. Kindly suggest . Thanks and kindly suggest how i can elaborate to you so as to make my prolem clearer to you. |

Hi,
i've read your post and i'm not quite sure i got it correctly... As i understand it, clients wants to connect to your server to get to Internet for www browsing, right? But you say your clients connect from Internet already, so they already have Internet connection and can connect to internet ... So now, i'm a bit confused what the scenario is, sorry for that .. . IF client wants to access web he has to log on my PPPOE server . there is no other way for internet for him
