It's a Samsung HM321HI, Freecom branded, USB 3.0 external HDD. I have it attached to a home server at the moment, and would like it to spin down when not in use (95% of the time).
I have tried sdparm and hdparm, it won't accept either command. hdparm gives errors, sdparm commands silently fail. I have enabled /proc/sys/vm/laptop_mode, and tried using sg3 as suggested in this bug discussion - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sdparm/+bug/444818. Still no go. It is not a root filesystem, there are no logs being written to it or anything like that. I't mounted noatime; it should be spinning down, or at least allowing me to change parameters with hdparm/sdparm. I'm out of ideas. Hi spoovy,
i had a brief look on the web and found handful different approaches and solutions starting by vendor spindown utilities, then linux binaries, scripts, different etc etc. I'm afraid, you'll have to trial/error to find out your solution.... at least e.g. here is list of disks working (spinning down): slug linux and hd-idle linux utility on sourceforge: hd-idle well, good luck on this man -------------------- |
