Dear Experts,

I have SL6 installed on my pc and it was working fine until the proxy settings has been implemented.
Now Add/Remove Software is also not able to download and install any package or software. Yum update is also not working.

Software Sources giving such kind of message:
"The package download failed Could not contact source 'sl-addons', so it will be disabled"
like that all sources are disabled now.

After typing yum update in terminal following message is appearing:
"[root@ppcd etc]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, security
Setting up Update Process
http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 407"
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: adobe-linux-i386. Please verify its path and try again"

I did some changes in yum.conf file as many forums have suggested like adding foll. lines in yum.conf file.

proxy=proxy.xxx.xxx.in:3128
proxy_username=shivang
proxy_password=shivang*1

Still, I am not able to update yum and my system as well.
My internet is working fine after doing proxy settings in firefox and chrome.
But not able to download anything from Add/Remove Software or yum.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks & Regards
Shivang

Hi Shivang,
your 'yum.conf' change regarding proxy setting is correct. I used it in same way many times myself.

I see from your pasted yum output that the repo causing trouble is 3rd party repository from adobe. I'd try to disable it and try to run update again.

To disable repo:
1. from CLI:
CODE

yum --disablerepo=reponame update

howto find the repo name (example from my laptop - your adobe repo will have diff. name, because you have 32bit repo probably -so check it out):
CODE

cat /etc/yum.repos.d/adobe-linux-x86_64.repo
[adobe-linux-x86_64]
name=Adobe Systems Incorporated
baseurl=http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/x86_64/
enabled=0
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-adobe-linux

reponame is in the brackets - in this case adobe-linux-x86_64 whereas the command (in my example) to run would be:
CODE

yum --disablerepo=adobe-linux-x86_64 update

2. you can disable repositroy in the repofile
again as an example from my laptop:
CODE

vi /etc/yum.repos.d/adobe-linux-x86_64.repo

make sure that:
CODE

enabled=0

cheers :]

Hii Dear,

Thanks for the reply. But still I couldn't able to run yum update.
It is giving error :
------------------
[root@ppcd /]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, security
Setting up Update Process
http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 407"
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: google-chrome. Please verify its path and try again
-----------------
Then I disabled the google repo as well u suggested.
Then again it is giving:
---------------
[root@ppcd /]# yum update
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit, security
Setting up Update Process
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.repoforge.org/el6/mirrors-rpmforge error was
14: PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 407"
http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el6/en/i386/rpmforge/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 22 - "The requested URL returned error: 407"
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: rpmforge. Please verify its path and try again
----------------------
Now. Shall I disable this repo also??

The contents of yum.repos.d directory are:
----------------------------------------------------
adobe-linux-i386.repo
google-chrome.repo
mirrors-rpmforge
mirrors-rpmforge-extras
mirrors-rpmforge-testing
rpmforge.repo
sl-other.repo
sl.repo
sl6x.repo
.swp
-------------------------------------------------------

Hi,
those are 3rd party repos too.
And yes, for debugging purpose, i'd disable all 3rd party repos first and try to get the SL repo working and then try the rest ..

Also, if you say, that your WWW browser display the www content, i would try to past the URL from 'sl.repo' to address bar in browser and see if you get there ..

cheers :]
