Hi all,

Using a SL CERN 6 (carbon)
After a kernel update (regretful), system will not boot unless connected to internet.
Where it fails..I copied the log msg from screen:

Updating CellservDB:
Starting Opneafs-client: module license (link to site)
Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
enabling dynamically allocated vcaches
Starting AFS cache scan...found 5 non-empty cache files (0%)
afs: lost contact with volume location server 137.138.246.50 in cell cern.ch (code=-1)
afs: hard-mount waiting for a vlserver to return to service

....this last line repeats endlessly until plaguing the ethernet cable

Any idea what's going on..how to fix this?

Ouch, SLC6 is specificly intended to be used by people at CERN. It has some specific modifications for their network and such.

I'm not sure which they are, but you could try to find out if any related package might die because of the missing internet link? Any specific package installed that is related to AFS?

It's actually used by other non-CERN labs. It's been working fine, minus the hassle that doesn't miss every kernel update. I should have been warned enough NOT to update.

As a non-experimented user, I updated and cleaned via Yum twice. Not solved.

The issue here is why would a computer need internet to boot. Once the ethernet cable plagued in, it does..no problem.

Does anyone know whether their (CERN) support ever answers outsiders mail/queries?
