help with firewall set up, just want to change some things, some things i never do .

wanting to set up my firewall , to maker it more secure against burglars.

my port is set to "ssh" 22/tcp by default.

i dont do remote desktop, i dont do folder sharing , or printer sharing , never did those
things when i used to use windows XP, i dont want to do it on linux, lol

when i had windows XP , i used to use the firefall called "Comodo firewall" it was a
great software firewall.

so is there a way i can make SL 6.2 more secure while i'm surfing , buying stuff, printing stuff off the net , and other stuff. ?

Hi kisss,
There is a graphic user interface tool for setting up a firewall in SL. You can find the tool by going System > Administration > Firewall .

As far as making you computer more secure, I believe one of the most important things you can do is to turn off any service you don't need running. This will reduce the attack vectors someone could use against you. You can find and stop services from running at boot with the following commands.
To get a list of services that start a boot run:

CODE

su - chkconfig --list|grep on

and to stop a service from starting on boot you can run a command like:

CODE

su - chkconfig sshd off

The above would keep the service sshd from starting on boot. Just replace "sshd" with any other service you don't want to start on boot.
