ohmy.gif
i have previously used mint in virtual box without facing any problem with file system.
but after installing fresh SL6.5, the strange thing is that it showed my ntfs external hdd unsupported/ unable to mount. i knew that linux does not have facination to any particular file system. so can u tell me why this is happening ? and how to make it usable. also my desktop brightness controller key, touchpad nothing is working. please help to overcome these problems.

You need the ntfs 'driver' :
ntfs-3g-2011.4.12-5.el6.x86_64.rpm
from ExtraPackagesForEnterpriseLinux
.
Some users here use theCommandLineInterface
yum -
yum - some_thing-or_other
um , I forgot.
.
FIRST install the 'repo' for EPEL :
.
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
.
I download and right-click on it in Nautilus (file manager) ;
& pick Install.
.
Then :
I use the GNOME GUI 'Add /Remove Software'
to 'look' for ntfs-3g
& install from there.

Updated to 6.5 via DVD s
