If you install from LiveCD, the repos are slightly different from the ones from the ones you get from the install CD.

This means that you will *not* get point release upgrades (e.g. 6.3->6.4).

(This howto was greatly simplified, thanks to redman's suggestion)

1. Replace repo files. These packages just provide files under /etc/yum.repos.d
# yum remove livecd-extra-release
# yum install yum-conf-sl6x

2. Clear out all the yum caches and update
# yum clean all
# yum update

Hope this is helpful!

As far as I could see your howto seems right.

You could check if there is a package responsible for "sl-livecd-extra.repo".
Either by using "rpm -qa | grep yum" or "yum whatprovides */sl-livecd-extra.repo".
