Hi all,

yesterday I purchased a new Lenove Edge 545.

I installed SL 6.5 and nearly all is running out of the box. Only the WLAN (Broadcom BCM43142) driver was not installed.

I followed the installation rules herewhich I have found in this forum here and now the laptop works well without any problems.

This is a well-arranged und clear forum.

Thanks a lot!!!

I always thought that IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads used Intel wireless! I hate Broadcom, have it on an HP and an Acer netbook. Wish that EPEL or some repo would just offer the binary without all the "build" problems.

As explained on the ELRepo wiki page, the issue is: "We (ELRepo) cannot create and redistribute binary RPMS for these drivers due to the Broadcom licensing restrictions (i.e., liability issues)." Not sure if /how EPEL can handle this licensing stuff.
