Hi,

I have a strange issue on my Dell Latitude e5420 laptop.

I had SL 6 (x86_64) installed for 1 year and I didn't had any problem.
Then I installed SL 7 and my system freezes once every two or three days.

Also the kdump is installed but when the system freezes it is useless, I have the libata.force=noncq kernel options configured and I have disable the AHCI from the bios.

Any ideas howto troubleshoot this issue?

Regards,
G.

Hi,

/var/log/dmesg
/var/log/messages
/var/log/Xorg.0.log

show anything of interest?

There can be more reasons for these things to be happening. Do you see some pattern in freezes?
If there is nothing in logs, it is very hard to eliminate.

If nothing in logs, generally, i'd try to upgrade vga driver - try out vendor vga driver if possible, also you might try to use different kernel from kernel.org and wait for SL kernel with fixes (if the kernel from kernel.org would help)

cheers,

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm sure that I didn't had anything in /var/log/messages.

So far, I have added the "libata.force=noncq pci=nomsi acpi_osi=linux acpi_backlight=vendor" kernel options to the grub and I'm waiting to see if the issue persists.

Thanks,
G.
