Hi,

I have installed SL6 (2.6.32) on an Intel NUC DCCP847DYE, and bought separately an Intel Wireless 3160.

Right now the bluetooth is working but not the WIFI.

I've copied into /lib/firmware some of them https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi (which one I have to use?) but doing modinfo iwlwifi I can see plenty of othe wiwi (5000, 2000, ...) but not mine 3160.
In dmesg I have

CODE
platform microcode: firmware: requesting intel-ucode/06-2a-07

Do you have any clue?

Cheers,

Paolo

hi there :]

- is it USB dongle?
- which version of kernel you have? (uname -a)
- list you network HW (lspci | grep -i network) => do you see your HW listed in the output?

If you see your HW listed, try to look if you have native kernel module for it.

eg. mine laptop:
CODE

lspci | grep -i network
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03)
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)

here i see i have 4965 intel wifi - and ->

cat /boot/config-2.6.32-504.3.3.el6.x86_64 | grep 4965
CONFIG_IWL4965=m
# iwl3945 / iwl4965 Debugging Options

i see that mine wifi module is directly part of shipped kernel.
What yours?

Hi,
on my laptop as an example:
CODE

modinfo iwlwifi
filename:       /lib/modules/2.6.32-504.3.3.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/iwlwifi.ko
license:        GPL

version:        in-tree:
description:    Intel(R) Wireless WiFi driver for Linux
firmware:       iwlwifi-100-5.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-1000-5.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-135-6.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-105-6.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-2030-6.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-2000-6.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-5150-2.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-6000g2b-6.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-6000g2a-5.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-3160-7.ucode
firmware:       iwlwifi-7260-7.ucode

then:
CODE

yum whatprovides */iwlwifi-3160-7.ucode

kernel-firmware-2.6.32-504.3.3.el6.noarch : Firmware files used by the Linux kernel
Repo        : installed
Matched from:
Filename    : /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-3160-7.ucode

this mean - try to install (if you dont have it yet):
CODE

yum install kernel-firmware

next i had look at the iwlwifi.ko kernel module:
CODE

yum whatprovides */iwlwifi.ko

kernel-2.6.32-504.3.3.el6.x86_64 : The Linux kernel
Repo        : installed
Matched from:
Filename    : /lib/modules/2.6.32-504.3.3.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/iwlwifi.ko

i would also try to update kernel you have:
CODE

yum update kernel

reboot laptop to get new kernel active

try again
CODE

modinfo iwlwifi

have a look if iwl driver is loaded
CODE

lsmod | grep iwl

If it still doesnt work, paste here respective outputs of above commands

cheers :]

Hi,

yes was definitely a problem with the kernel. Luckily I was free to use an another release since is not a machine in production, so I used 6.6 which kernel include Intel 3160 wifi that was not present on 6.4,

thank you very much,

cheers,

Paolo
