Hello friends, my Totem media player crashes with the following message every time I attempt to play certain video files:

CODE
[yottabyte@localhost ~]$ totem
libva: VA-API version 0.32.0
libva: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva: Trying to open /usr/lib64/dri/i965_drv_video.so
libva: va_openDriver() returns -1
Segmentation fault

At first play, Totem reported that it was missing some plug-ins and offered to search for them, it then found and installed what it needed and ever since then it crashes with the above. I have all the available SL repos enabled, so I don't know which one sourced which plug-in. I tried removing the gstreamer-plugins-bad and ugly but that resulted in dependency hell and PackageKit wanted to remove half my installed software.

The video files that I have tried to play were H.264 encoded .mkv as well as regular .avi. Please help.

Totem with gstreamer works for me but you should consider adding VLC. Which repos do you have enabled? ELRepo is sometimes not enough and you should add RPMFusion as well. RMPForge and ELRepo do not always get along so RPMFusion is better if you plan to use ELRepo.
I have had less luck with Smplayer in Scientific Linux but it is also a good choice.

For Totem, I choose all gstreamer modules and this allowed it to work for me but I only did this after adding RPMFusion.

Hello,
Yum has a history function that can be useful. You can view the transaction history to identify what was installed when and yum even has a undo function to undo a particular transaction. The commands for yum history usually go something like this:
CODE
su -
yum history
yum history info #
yum history undo #

(use the transaction ID number instead of #)
Hope this helps,

Thanks for responding. The problem was caused by me not heeding to warnings that 3rd party repos do not mix. I have since reinstalled SL6.1 and am being more responsible with the repos. Totem plays all vids without a hitch now.
