I have been waiting for updates on the progress and status of SL6.5 for weeks.

Unfortunately there has been almost no information posted to the Forum including progress reports or bugs since the announcement of the 6.5Beta in early December. I am aware from DistroWatch that rc-1 and a 6.5LiveDVD were announced over the last few weeks.

I cannot tell you how frustrating ( it is having to sit on my hands waiting for the availability of the next version when competing Distro's such as CentOS have released their 6.5 several weeks ago and are already proactively test porting the RHEL 7 Beta.

I suppose in the long term CentOS will not be much of a threat considering todays news! I had considered Scientific Linux to be the better distros because it has the weight of the Scientific Community behind it whereas CentOS is/was not so well supported.

Please Please Please, can you provide more regular updates, perhaps a 2 line daily status report on the forum indicating

version/release-state, minor-bugs (reported/resolved), significant-bugs (rep/res), show-stoppers (rep/res), next-release-state (eta/state).

6.5/rc1, (15/12), (10/6), (5/3), (10th Jan/rc2)

I might suggest that it would be beneficial to break the forum into a set of version specific forums for the purpose of reporting bugs and posting updates rather than just having a few functional topics.

It may be of interest to you that this weeks Server Showdown in DistroWatch weekly, highlight a distinct lack of interest in or awareness of Scientific Linux from the general community.

If I were you I would want to change this by raising the profile of Scientific Linux and part of this could be resolved by radically improving the porting process and the flow of information between yourselves and the community at large. If you don't you may find Scientific Linux loosing significant support!

I hope that I might contribute one day in the future once I learn enough about Linux to become a decent SysAdmin.

Thankyou and regards to all

What you might not be aware of is that this is an independent SL user forum run by users for users, not an official forum run by the developers of SL. That said one of the developers (or probably the main developer of SL, Pat Riehecky) does occasionally post here, but that's just as a favour to us users.

The official SL communication channels are a couple of mailing lists, therefore if you would like to speak to the SL devs or simply follow their discussions and announcements, then I recommend you to subscribe to the mailing lists. You can find the details here:
