I am currently using virtualboxwith a 386 debian image as web server on a 386 (pae kernel) pclinuxos host .

Is there any advantage to running a 64 bit host over a 386 with pae kernel.

Is there any advantage to running 386 images over 64 bit host.

My reasoning is that the 64bit uses twice the ram as a 386 which effectively halving the amount of addressable ram you have.

Thanks for your input

This section talks about 64-bit guest on a 32-bit host:

Thanks for your reply toracat
sorry I was not clear
I meant to say "Is there any advantage to running 386 images over 64 bit host

I was surprised to see anyone trying to run 64bit guest on a 32bit host.

My main computer is an old amd x4 620 12 gig ram and running 4 virtual boxes and tv recording (tvheadend and xbmc)
I am currently using 386 images on a 386 host because the backup machine is much older amd x2 ( I don't even remember the rest) I think??

So I would prefer to use 366 guest on a 386 host unless there is a significant difference.
I have not tried kvm

Would an amd a8-5600k be any good for a webserver ( low usage ) or would a fx 4130 be better?

Dave

not sure how the above post occured or how to get rid of it.
