Works ok from what I can tell, no more Choppy playback from Fullscreen Youtube. and at the moment, zero crashes.

how I installed it was

unzip the package

place the .so file in /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins

run mozilla-plugin-configure -i -f

then opened Firefox and it worked nicely smile.gif

I got the news from H-Online:
http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Adobe-brings-back-64-bit-Flash-for-Linux-1279199.html

I used to be a regular reader of TheRegister until a few years ago but then the ratio of noise to useful info got way too high on TheRegister, so I stopped reading it.

Nice...I'll be installing it shortly and check it with Hulu Desktop. biggrin.gif

PS: We can now throw the argument out the window about using 64 bit flash because it's never updated it looks like laugh.gif

It is about time they release an official/supported version of Flash for x86_64.
And indeed, with that one around there is no need to keep using 32 bits SL on 64 bits hardware wink.gif

Nope, no problems here (using flash-plugin from RPMforge + Nvidia's own driver).

There are problems on 32 bits systems (solved it by installing the flash-plugin-10.1.102.65-release.i386.rpm package. On 64 bits systems I experienced problems with the 10,x package (like no fullscreen viewing of movies, freezing flash games) but they were solved with the latest plugin.

These vulnerabilities could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system.

Their info sounds bad, but it doesn't have to be bad. Remember: under Linux, IF a piece of code could be executed, it would run as regular user (unless you run it as root what is BAD) which means limited access (no system permissions). It won't take over the system.

Because your system might be selecting a mirror for RPMforge that doesn't have it (yet)?

My mistake - I had adobe repo with priority 1 when I still used the 32 bit version. Changed it now to 4.

The 64 bit flash player has now gone mainline (finally). smile.gif

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

So I suppose I can change my priorities again to get it from adobe instead of
repoforge.#####

##### No, not a great way to go as I have adobe i386 repo file needed for adobe reader
which is not available in 64 bit. As I want the 64 bit flash plugin I obviously can't use an i386
repo file.
In other words I will rely on repofoge for the 64 bit version as before.

Pity, flash player, 64 bit version in my case, has still not been patched by repoforge since November 11th.

QUOTE
Adobe has closed twelve critical holes in all supported versions of Flash Player up to and including version 11.0.1.152. The memory corruption vulnerabilities allowed attackers to inject malicious code on computers; visiting a specially crafted web page is all that is required to become a victim. When Internet Explorer is used, attackers can exploit a further hole to bypass the cross-domain policy.

The new version is 11.1.102.55

I suppose if we can't rely on speedy updates from repoforge, we are left no alternative but
to obtain the player direct from Adobe - it's not nice as one would have to constantly check
to see whether yet another patch has been released.

http://www.madjacksports.com/forum/images/smilies/facepalm.gif Adobe has now also a yum repo for its 64-bit version: http://get.adobe.com/de/flashplayer/otherversions/
Select "Linux 64-bit" and "Flash-Player 64-bit YUM" to download the adobe-release-x86_64 rpm.

I got the update to 11.1.102.55 at November 13th.

Hello joka,
Yes, I have seen that

So, does the install automatically add a repo file to /etc/yum.repos.d ? If not I am back to
square one as I would have to vigilantly monitor Adobe's flash player site for updates.

EDIT:- My bad. Yes of course it adds a repo file. http://th166.photobucket.com/albums/u117/rdshear/Smiley%20Faces/th_smiley-face-thumbs-up.gif

OK, I just downloaded adobe-release-x86_64-1.0-1.noarch.rpm and installed it with # rpm -Uvh. I checked that adobe-linux-x86_64 has indeed been added to /etc/yum.repos.d (yes). But when I exited seamonkey & firefox (both x86_64 versions) and restarted them, I still get "upgrade your Flash player!" from YouTube etc. No doubt there is some additional step(s) that have evaded me for the past 5 years since I began failing to get Flash to work on any of my 64-bit Linux systems. Anyone care to come to my rescue?

Hello JHBrewer,

You have to install the flash-plugin after installing the adobe repo.

CODE
su -c 'yum install flash-plugin'

PS. I use the 32 bit flash on my 64 bit systems because the 64 bit is not updated as regularly as the 32 bit. When using the 32bit flash on a 64bit system you also have to install some other 32 bit packages:
CODE
su -c 'yum install nspluginwrapper.{i686,x86_64} alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.i686'

then:
CODE
su -c 'yum install flash-plugin'

Hope this helps,
PM
