gconf-editor is for those hard to reach places. I've never had any issues, but from what I hear, you should use it cautiously.
It may already be installed under Main Menu--> System Tools--> Configuration Editor, however, an install from the SL Live 6.1 did not have it installed by default. If you do not have it, it is easily searched for and installed by using PackageKit, which is: Menu-->System-->Administration-->Add/Remove Software or by using the equivalent yum commands. Here are just a few things you can do with it: http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.php?showtopic=938&hl=gconf http://scientificlinuxforum.org/index.php?showtopic=106 -------------------- Motherboard: ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G;
