Chaps. I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo ThinkPad - probably the L420, with:
Intel Core i5-2410M (Sandy Bridge) CPU; Intel HM65 chipset with integral Intel HD graphics; UltraNav with trackpoint and touchpad; Fingerprint reader; 720p HD Camera; Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 NIC; ThinkPad L420 Naturally i'll be wanting to install SL on it, with a newer Fedora kernel if necessary. It seems these models are well supported by Linux. Does anyone have any other info? Cheers This post has been edited by spoovy: Oct 30 2011, 01:19 AM -------------------- |

Hi there,
i think it's nice laptop for (supposedly) nice money - this lappy goes on the cheaper scale of Lenovo. With Linux support, i can't see any problems. I'd just make sure to buy it with 1600x900 screen (and maybe better battery). Of course the Intel HD graphics is not good speaking in terms of power and quality of displayed picture compared to nvidia or ati VGAs ... But anyway, for the price, nice little machine all arround. cheers, -------------------- |

So you think drivers will be available; even for the fingerprint reader and trackpoint etc??
Why do you say that about the screen? I was planning on a 14-inch, 1366 x 768. -------------------- |

1. trackpoint is no problem, the fingerprint - it depends on the fprint chip ... i have thinkpad r61 and my fprint works, but it doesnt have to for you ... google 2. everyone buy what resolution is comfortable with - if you're fine with this resolution, it's ok, i just say, i'd go for higher, since the 1600x900 is available too, even on the 14' version anyway, as said, nice box for the money ![]() cheers, -------------------- |

Found this website - http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki which looks really useful but is unfortunately quite a bit out of date, so of limited use re the L420.
heli - where have you seen it offerred with 1600x900? Are you sure you're not mixing it up with the T420? This post has been edited by spoovy: Oct 30 2011, 05:57 AM -------------------- |

Done. I went for the T420 in the end. Good call on the screen res heli. I hadn't really thought about it, but the higher res will definately make the most out of a small screen.
I'm jumping up and down with anticipation already!! ![]() -------------------- |

Wow! i'm a bit in envy, i love unpacking these machines ![]() ![]() And the screen is avail on 'L' series too, but i guess it depends on country / supplier... but the 'T' is better .. supposed to be better crafted and the materials for chassi and cover is supposed to be better too. Cant say personally, the 'T' line was always a bit 'higher' than i wanted to spend ![]() Anyway, gratz on this new piece of nice HW! cheers, -------------------- |
